When Hoarding Pays Off - Christmas on the Front Porch

Proverbs 2:4

I save things... I love to save things, I save way too many things. They are just things, but to me they are Treasures, and someday I may find a way to use them. Pinterest has helped me (alot) with finding useful, clever, beautiful ways to use and display my "Treasures"

Sometimes I think I'm just one short step away from being labeled a Hoarder, and that's not a pretty concept.

But, sometimes it pays off.

My Granddaughter was born 2 days before Thanksgiving, she came home from the hospital on Thanksgiving day, and they moved into their new home that day as well.

So when my Daughter asked me to decorate her porch, for her first Christmas in her new home my mind started racing...

An old Chair also received a fresh coat of Paint and a Vintage Santa Transfer (from the Vintage Fairy)

My Grandfather's Ladder, with an old wire Basket (used for the birds this summer) found a new home, and a new coat of white Paint. The "Bird" sign was replaced with my Hand painted "Merry Christmas" sign

The Metal White Star was a Thrift Store find, the Red Pillow, my Daughter in law was getting rid of when she redid her bedroom, and even though I have no red in my house, I knew someday I would find a place for it.

Old Plastic Star Lights and Pine cones fill the basket.

My Brothers childhood Brown, Hockey Skates, received a makeover with  Black Paint and a little bit of red "fur" from an old Dollar Store Stocking, and some red Ribbon

Several "extra" Faux Pine Wreaths, and Garland, were updated by sparsely splattering on White Paint

An old Gumball Machine, I've been putting off painting, an old set of skis (also my bothers) a stack of "gifts' that came with an assortment of candy (years ago)

Total cost of decorating my Daughter's Porch? $0.00!

French Label Transfer - Knife Block

Numbers 6:24

Knife Holder with Transfer and Stenciling

I found an old Wooden Knife holder at the Thrift Store, Painted it with Homemade Chalk Paint. Distressed it a little with sandpaper.

I used Freezer Paper to transfer an image from the Graphic Fairy, and Stenciled Numbers on the sides, and an Ampersand on the top.

Freezer paper is an easy way to add a transfer to your projects, it gives the transfer an faded time-worn look.

Just use sheet of computer paper and some freezer paper. Spray the computer paper with spray adhesive, and lay it on a piece of freezer, cut the freezer paper out to the same size as the computer paper.

Choose your graphic, and print using a reverse print. Print on the "waxy" side of the freezer paper.  While the ink is still wet place it on your project and rub the back with a credit card. Let it dry. I left if dry overnight [cause the first time I didn't and the ink smeared, :( ] Then apply several coats of a wax finish.

Burlap Pumpkins with Natural Dried Stems - Save those Pumpkin Stems!

2 Corinthians 5:17

I know Pumpkin Season is over and Christmas is all the rage
(as it should be)

I wasn't going to post, but then I thought some of you may still have your pumpkins hanging around. Save the stems! Dry them out and use them on your "Craft" pumpkins next year.

These are the Burlap Pumpkins I made this year using the Dried Pumpkin Stems my Son saved me last year. I just threw them in an open box and forgot about them, they dried perfectly!

Since I'm on a Spending Freeze, I wanted to use the things I had... the burlap I bought last year for a project I never did... I have a stock pile of  things for projects I never did, I'm sure some of you have similar stock, just waiting to be used. So instead of buying, I'm digging out the old to make some new things. I'm being thrifty.

I used an old bed pillow for the stuffing, and a ball of twine I had from the Dollar Tree.

I just "pulled" off some stuffing and gathered it into a pumpkin shape. Cut the Burlap into a large Square and brought all 4 corners to the center and secured with a rubber band. The I just tucked the raw edges in, and squished the pumpkin into shape, added the twine, which came off the roll already Curled!

I made several sizes to use as a grouping. I used my hot glue gun to glue the Natural Dried Stems to the top, easy peasy!
