Creating with Vintage Books

I'm BACK! At least I think I am...
Just sort of "testing" the waters to see if I even remember how to do this!
I can't believe I haven't post in almost a year...

I so enjoyed all this, Life just got in the way, you know how that is...
But, I so missed this and decided it was time to make time and get back to the things I enjoy, the things that make me, well me!

I've been slowly getting back to Creating, and these books are a perfect creative outlet for me, I love getting out the paint, stencils and ink, dreaming up new designs...

I've even been selling them in my Etsy Store! Actually selling, not just listing! This has been a real boost for my deflated sense of worth as an, (dare I say it out loud) Artist, me an artist?

The dictionary Definition of Artist:
1. a person who produces works in any of the arts that are primarily subject to aesthetic criteria.

2. a person who practices one of the fine arts, especially a painter or sculptor.

 

Well, I'm no painter or sculptor...But I am Creative, I really am... This is who I am, what makes me Happy! I love to create!

So yes, from this day forward I'm going to think of myself as an Artist! (sort of)

So, I'm back! I've missed sharing, I've missed visiting with all of Blogland, and I have a lot of catching up to do. Fall Mantel

As usual I'm running behind on my Seasonal Decorating, I guess I was just clinging to Summer... I have not got out a single Fall decoration. So to get me in the mood, I'm sharing my last years Mantel (again) Hope you enjoy!

 

 

Hopefully this will inspire me to get busy and do some Fall decorating and get back to blogging (which I really do miss!)

Potting Bench - A work in Progress

This is the Potting Table I put together last summer. I'm calling this my "Before", since I was never really satisfied with it. I spent last summer putting it together and tweaking it, but it's still not the way I want it. Which is why I didn't post it last year.

All the items were salvaged pieces, things I've had or "acquired" So it was completely FREE! Not bad for the price...

A Vintage Shelving Unit, sits on top of an old Farm Table, backed with an old Wooden Garage Door.

I added a stenciled Branch, with Birds, some buckets, and wire basket hold tools and Rusty Treasures

I attached another old shelf to the side of the house, a rusty mailbox holds larger Garden Tools

Below an old Umbrella Stand holds some rakes and a hoe, an old Quaker State Oil Drum holds my Bird Seed

Below you can see I tried using an old shutter, door, and Door frame... These are to hide my "workspace" behind. These are the main things I want to change.

It's a little Junky-er than I would like, but it really did serve it's purpose and saw a lot of use!

I can't wait to get started on the changes I have in mind!

Decorating Vintage Books

I love decorating with old books, this time I decided to Decorate the Books.

Usually I just stack them or wrap twine around them and add them to my vignettes. I've seen so many amazing decorated books I decided to try some for my self.

It was easy and fun!

This first set I decided to paint, and since I love the way chalk paint looks on my other projects, I decided to use it on the books, so I mixed up a batch...

I decided to use my long neglected stamps to decorate the covers, and spines, then sand them a little more for a deeper distressed look.

I added some some old upholstery tacks...

 

A little twine, a rusty gear, and an old skeleton key, complete the 1st bundle 

 

 

I added a little color, my favorite, for the 2nd set, that were "cover-less" I wanted it very light so I watered down the paint and gave it a quick "wash"

I added some Vintage Jewelry, Frayed Ribbon, and used the same French Script Stamp

The 3rd Bundle, I just Bundled and Adorned with Ribbon, a Duck Feather, and an Old Charm
