Decorating Vintage Books

I love decorating with old books, this time I decided to Decorate the Books.

Usually I just stack them or wrap twine around them and add them to my vignettes. I've seen so many amazing decorated books I decided to try some for my self.

It was easy and fun!

This first set I decided to paint, and since I love the way chalk paint looks on my other projects, I decided to use it on the books, so I mixed up a batch...

I decided to use my long neglected stamps to decorate the covers, and spines, then sand them a little more for a deeper distressed look.

I added some some old upholstery tacks...

 

A little twine, a rusty gear, and an old skeleton key, complete the 1st bundle 

 

 

I added a little color, my favorite, for the 2nd set, that were "cover-less" I wanted it very light so I watered down the paint and gave it a quick "wash"

I added some Vintage Jewelry, Frayed Ribbon, and used the same French Script Stamp

The 3rd Bundle, I just Bundled and Adorned with Ribbon, a Duck Feather, and an Old Charm

Summer Junking Treasures

This has been a great summer for junkin', collecting, well yea, Junkin'

What are you going to do with all that JUNK?
Sound familiar?

It's been a rust filled summer, so if you share my Love of Rust, take a scroll through my post. Here you will find some of my Summer Treasures, Thrifted, Salvaged and Yard Sale Finds,
all  Super Cheap or Free, beautiful JUNK.

First up is a half Rusty Bucket, picked up for 25 cents at G/W, the Hen and Chicks were 50 cents at the HMY "100 Mile Yard Sale". I hung them on the Rusty door Knob, of my favorite salvaged door.

The Umbrella Stand I'm using for my garden tools, was from the HMY.

 The Rusty Quaker State Barrel, holds my Bird Seed, it was Salvaged while on it's way to the scrap yard.



This old Enamel Bowl was a "present" my husband dug up from an old barn foundation beside our Camp in the mountains.

The Plaid Thermos I picked up for 50 cents at the HMY.  
The Wire Egg Basket is from our Church Rummage Sale.
The Small Basket, was another gift from my husband, he brought home from his Aunt, who is de-cluttering.

The lantern was another Rummage Sale find, it was black and I painted it white. The Broken Crate I already had.

My Scenery

Just a Sample of God's Masterpiece, and My Blessings

I am constantly amazed at the Beauty God has created, who could paint all the beauty we see every day? Looking for a Miracle? Just look around you, it's everywhere.

I've been searching for the words to describe what I felt as I walked around our property, and I'm at a loss. I take this walk almost daily, down the drive, around the field... Today I decided to take my camera, somehow looking through the lens, it was as if seeing it all with "new" eyes. I am just in awe of what God has created, and given me to care for.

The Beauty of the details in all we see...

The best I can do is name some of the flowers, that He has placed here for me to enjoy.

There are so many memories wrapped up in our landscaping



This Snowball Bush, was a start from my Parents Home.

My husband built this for me, (he even moved it for me when I changed my mind about where I wanted it) The sign I bought on my first trip to New York City with my sister-in-law.



The white Irises are from my Father-in-Law's home, he collected them, so many varieties. I wish more would have survived.

I have no idea what this is, I have wondered for years, not even sure how it got here. If anyone has a clue, please let me know!

My "wagon", I've had this almost 30 years, also a gift from my Father-in-Law. I wanted a wagon for my yard, we had a very small budget, with which I was searching. One day he called from an auction, and wanted me to come look at this... I fell in love, then he told me what it was, a manure spreader, oh... because it wasn't a wagon, it would go cheaper than a wagon, who else would want a manure spreader for decoration? I think we only paid about $30 for it!

Just an old barrel waiting for me to decide it's fate...

Soon, I'll fill the flower boxes with impatients

The rusty shovel head and what's left of the coal bucket, were recent gifts from my Son and Husband. They were dug up in the yard at our camp in the Mountains, and they thought I might like them, well there rusty, and cute, so YES!

This is one of those times when I wish I was a gifted writer and could beautifully put into words my thoughts and feelings, but that is not one of the gifts God has given me. Hopefully I was able to somewhat describe the sense of awe I was feeling on my walk with God.
